Mountain Breathing
Calm Your Nervous System, Invite Ease and Cultivate Stability
What is Hara (Belly) Breathing?
The hara breathing practice connects and anchors us to our spiritual energy center, located about two inches below the belly button. This is the wellspring of our True Nature, where our authenticity, courage, stability, character, patience and integrity reside. Each time we connect to this inner-sanctuary, we widen the base of our mountain, creating stability, gaining strength, wisdom and clarity.
Interestingly, when studying the nervous system, this form of breathing soothes the entire nervous system, helping to usher us from fight/flight/mobilization mode back into our relaxed, centered state. Along its travels, the breath supports all internal automatic functions, slowing the heart rate, returning organs to their rest and digest functions. What could be more powerful that helping our bodies restore while also connecting with our True Nature? This breath is a road home.
